Capturing Serenity and Tranquility in Oils on Canvas

I believe if you just close your eyes you can be anywhere…

Lying on the beach listening to the waves roll in and roll out… and even smelling the salty air…

Looking out on a vast frozen sea from the window of a warm cozy cabin on the Baltic archipelago…

Standing on top of a magnificent rocky mountain inhaling the cool fresh breeze…the brilliant sun shining on your eyelashes…as you take in the distant expanse…breathe in all that is around you…

Even the heavenly sound of angels singing and the glorious throne of Almighty God in brilliant colors we have never seen…

With the world that man has created… the ‘illusion’… becoming more and more of a stench to God…I find myself fleeing to the simplicity of life…what is natural, what is good, what is blessed by God and called good by Him. To Jesus, His death and resurrection, His blood covering…His name which is a strong tower and the righteous run to it and are safe.

Here I find solace in the place of a holy God…serenity and tranquility in even the simplest neutral colors, sepia and taupe… serenity and tranquility…the beauty of grace and simplicity…

Sage’s Poppies
Plein air painting the gorgeous poppies in Sage’s garden.

A follower of Christ, wife of one incredible man, mother of nine wonderful and diversely talented children. I have traveled the world in my youth and lived in many beautiful places. Oklahoma has been my home for many years, and there are many inspiring landscapes to paint, but sometimes I find myself yearning for the far distant places I knew in my past. I wrote the bio above of my musings, mostly because I find it so hard to write about myself. Hopefully it expresses my vision, and why I have chosen to paint in oils on canvas.

Back Alley Guthrie

Years ago I set out to paint some of the back alley buildings in Guthrie. As I walked through the old alley ways I was fascinated by all the detailed brick work like arched windows in places that wouldn’t ordinarily be seen by passers-by. I also realized that there are many places in Guthrie that even life time residents don’t know exists. An example of this is the old fire tower.

I wrote a blog post about this, so if you are interested in reading more about this building here is the link… Endangered Fire Tower
