One of my favorite analogies of life is that of the tapestry. Our Maker sees the front of the tapestry – everything laid out with perfect precision, looking beautiful even before it’s finished. But the back, the side facing us, oh what a mess it can be! We have to trust that His plan is better than ours and that the needle pricks and woven threads are making something more incredible than we can imagine. “Learn to look through the look of things.” George MacDonald writes in At the Back of the North Wind. We look through and see glimpses of God at work. We see glimmers of His perfect plan and feel cataracts of grace falling from heaven.

I’m thankful for the opportunity to weave on my grandmother’s Swedish loom. To create tapestries (and turn them over to see what a mess they are) and bind fibers together into usable and aesthetically pleasing pieces.   I’m thankful for the people Yahweh has woven into my life to create His handwork, His poiema, in me. “For we are His workmanship, having been created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10
